Tacrolimus (Protopic) is a prescription non-steroid medication used short-term on the skin to treat eczema (atopic dermatitis). It's for both adults and children 2 years of age and older who don't have a weakened immune system.
How tacrolimus (Protopic) works
Tacrolimus (Protopic) is a topical (used on the skin) calcineurin inhibitor. It works by blocking calcineurin, a protein in our bodies that helps activate our immune system. By blocking our immune system reponse, the inflammation that causes eczema is reduced.
What is tacrolimus (Protopic) used for?
Eczema (moderate to severe)
Typical dosing for tacrolimus (Protopic)
Apply a thin layer of tacrolimus (Protopic) to the affected skin twice daily.
