What is Zofran and when is it used?Zofran prevents forms of nausea and vomiting caused by certain treatments and should only be taken as directed by your doctor.
When should you not take Zofran?Zofran should not be used for nausea and vomiting not caused by the above treatment.
It also cannot be taken with apomorphine (used to treat Parkinson's disease).
If you have a hypersensitivity to Zofran, it should not be taken.
Under what circumstances should you be careful when taking Zofran?Zofran Zidis lingual tablet contains aspartame. If you have phenylketonuria, tell your doctor or healthcare professional. In this case, it is preferable to take film-coated tablets.
Care should be taken when taking the following medicines:
- Carbamazepine or phenytoin for the treatment of epilepsy.
- Rifampicin for the treatment of tuberculosis.
- Tramadol as a pain reliever.
- Certain medications (called SSRIs, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) used to treat depression and / or anxiety disorders.
- Certain medications (called SNRIs, serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors) used to treat depression and / or anxiety disorders.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking these medicines, have other medical conditions, have allergies, or are taking other medicines (including those you bought yourself) at the same time.
Can Zofran be used while pregnant or breastfeeding?Zofran should not be used during pregnancy.
Zofran may harm your unborn baby. If you are a woman of childbearing age, your doctor may perform a pregnancy test before starting treatment with Zofran / Zofran Zidis. If you are of childbearing potential, you must use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 2 days after stopping treatment with Zofran.
You should not use Zofran if you are breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor or healthcare professional if you are breastfeeding or would like to breastfeed.
