Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, used in the treatment of hypertension, congestive heart failure (CHF), or post-myocardial infarction (MI).

 HOW IT WORKS
Valsartan blocks the actions of angiotensin II, which includes constricting blood vessels and activating aldosterone, to reduce blood pressure.
Warnings:
 Precautions
Report to the physician if the patients are allergic to the active ingredients and any other drugs. Dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting may occur, this medicine may worsen the symptoms of heart failure in some patients, cause hyperkalemia.
 Contraindications of Valsartan
Hypersensitivity, severe hepatic impairment, cirrhosis or biliary obstruction, primary hyperaldosteronism, pregnancy, lactation
 Side Effects
Report to the physician immediately if the patients are having any of these following symptoms:
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Dose-related orthostatic hypotension
• Rash angioedema
• Hyperkalaemia
• Myalgia
• Respiratory tract disorders
• Back pain
• Gastrointestinal disturbances
• Fatigue
• Increase in bun and serum creatinine
• Abdominal pain
• Dry cough
• LFT elevations

 Alcohol Interaction
Consumption of alcohol is not advisable.
