Product Description
 
The name of this medicine is Atacand. The active ingredient is candesartan cilexetil. This belongs to a group of medicines called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It works by making your blood vessels relax and widen. This helps to lower your blood pressure. It also makes it easier for your heart to pump blood to all parts of your body.
Atacand can be used to: treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adult patients and in children and adolescents aged 6 to <18 years
Do not take Atacand:
if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
if you are more than 3 months pregnant.
if you have severe liver disease or biliary obstruction (a problem with the drainage of the bile from the gall bladder).
if the patient is a child under 1 year of age.
if you have diabetes or impaired kidney function and you are treated with a blood pressure lowering medicine containing aliskiren.
How to take Atacand:
It is important to keep taking Atacand every day.
You can take Atacand with or without food.
Swallow the tablet with a drink of water.
Try to take the tablet at the same time each day. This will help you to remember to take it.
High blood pressure: The recommended dose of Atacand is 8mg once a day. Your doctor may increase this dose to 16mg once a day and further up to 32mg once a day depending on blood pressure response.
Stop taking Atacand and seek medical help immediately if you have any of the following allergic reactions:
difficulties in breathing, with or without swelling of theface, lips, tongue and/or throat.
swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat, which may cause difficulties in swallowing.
severe itching of the skin (with raised lumps).

Atacand is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Candesartan belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. This medication is also used to treat heart failure. This medication is not recommended for use in children younger than 1 year due to increased risk of side effects.
How to use Atacand.
Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking atacand and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. In children, the dosage is also based on weight.
 side effects.
The most common side effects that can occur with atacand include:
back pain
dizziness
cold- or flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, sneezing, and a runny nose
sore throat
nasal congestion
If these effects are mild, they may go away within a few days or a couple of weeks. If they’re more severe or don’t go away, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
